Chinese Traditonal Garden Lesson

December 1st, our school asked a famous professor named Zhao Bin to give us a lesson. The professor talked about the Chinese traditional garden. It’s a lot of fun. This professor is an expert on Chinese garden. He even designed some part of Confucius’ Temple, one of the most important historical buildings in Nanjing.
He talked about gardens in Suzhou for an example. If we write garden in Chinese, it have a circle in out side like the shell. It means a garden should have wall or it want be a garden anymore. It has earth, wood wrote in Chinese in the middle of the word, that shows a garden also need wood and soil in the garden. There is a shape which looks like a pool in it too.
The professor also said that the Suzhou gardens are forest in modern cities. Why Suzhou traditional gardens are so attractive? He said that the fascination come from the good environment.
Suzhou gardens are all beautiful pictures, the designers were all good at painting. They separate the lake and mountain into different parts. Even though they were made by human, they looked like made by God. They gathered the rocks into different kinds of mountains.
There are 5 the most important thing about the traditional Chinese garden. The first one is to be thin. It means the special kind of spirit just like pines. In winter, most trees have no leaves or all the leaves are yellow, but pines always keep green and its leaves almost never fall down. That is the main idea of the word thin.The second one is not to be very tight. Gardens are place where people could relax themselves there, if they are too tight, it will make people a little bit stress.
Another one is to have some place that don't have any thing.The last one is to be changeable. In the old time if you build a garden, you have to pay a lot of money but you only could get one thing. If it is simmilar to others, it will no be very interesting.
One of the most important thing is to build the pool. There are 4 traditional rules to build a pool.
Let the water go into the garden, take the soil out to build a pool. Water and mountains should be together to show the respect to the enviroment. One pool and three man-made mountain to show the owner's dream, and look like a painting to show the moral of the owner's life.
